Chevron & Arrow Reflective Tape Guide

Stripes and arrows get the message across before anyone reads a sign. Chevron reflective tape marks hazards, edges and obstructions, and arrow tape shows which way to go. Both are made from acrylic prismatic reflective material, so they stand out in daylight and shine back brightly when headlights or torches hit them at night.

Chevron or Arrow: Which Do You Need?

  • Chevron tape is for hazard marking. Use it on gates, posts, barriers, edges, equipment and anything people or vehicles could hit.
  • Arrow tape is for direction. Use it to show traffic flow, one-way routes, entrances, exits and turns on gates, posts, driveways, signs and barriers.

Our Chevron and Arrow Range

  • Black & Yellow Chevron: the classic hazard-marking look. 50mm, 100mm and 150mm, left or right hand.
  • Red & White Chevron: a strong choice for barriers, gates and obstructions. 50mm, 75mm, 100mm and 150mm, left or right hand.
  • Red & Yellow Chevron: high-contrast warning stripes. 50mm, 100mm and 150mm, left or right hand.
  • Red & Yellow Arrow: bright directional arrows. 50mm, 100mm and 150mm.
  • Black & Yellow Arrow: reflective yellow with non-reflective black arrows for strong daytime contrast. 50mm, 100mm and 150mm.

Every tape is cut to the length you need, from 1 to 45 metres.

Why Acrylic Prismatic?

Prismatic reflective tapes are made with acrylic, PVC or PET face films. Ours use acrylic, the film generally chosen for long-term outdoor use because it resists UV and weathering and holds its colour. The trade-off is stiffness, so these tapes work best on flat, rigid surfaces. For tight curves, corners and edges, a flexible glass bead reflective tape is the better choice.

Left Hand or Right Hand Chevrons?

The material is the same either way. Only the angle of the stripes changes. Choose the direction that suits your layout, and if you're marking both sides of a gateway or opening, order one of each so the stripes mirror each other.

Where to Use Chevron and Arrow Tape

  • Gates, gate posts and barrier arms
  • Bollards, posts and pillars
  • Loading bays, ramps and dock edges
  • Driveway entrances and private roads
  • Yards, warehouses and workshops
  • Machinery, equipment and fixed obstructions
  • Signs and directional boards

Need Certified Chevrons?

These are general visibility tapes for private property and fixed objects. They are not Chapter 8 compliant and not ECE104 approved.

Applying Chevron and Arrow Tape

Apply to a clean, dry, smooth surface and press firmly from the middle outwards. Don't stretch the tape, and give it time to bond before it gets wet or knocked. Our step-by-step application guide covers surface prep and cold weather.

FAQs

Do the black stripes reflect?
No. On the black and yellow tapes, only the yellow reflects. The black gives strong contrast in daylight.

Can I use it indoors?
Yes. It works well in warehouses, car parks and workshops wherever lights or vehicle headlights hit it.

Can I use it on a works vehicle?
For roadworks and traffic management vehicles, use our Chapter 8 chevron tape. For HGVs and large trailers, use ECE104 tape.

Can I buy it in bulk?
Yes. See our trade and wholesale page or email sales@flashbacktape.co.uk.
