Product Description

Flashback® Black & Yellow Arrow Reflective Tape is a self-adhesive tape with a directional arrow pattern and a prismatic acrylic reflective yellow surface, for general visibility and directional marking on gates, posts, driveways, signs, barriers and fixed objects.

The yellow sections use genuine prismatic acrylic reflective material and reflect strongly under headlights, torchlight or any other direct light source at night. The black arrows are non-reflective by design, giving a strong daytime contrast and a clear directional reading in both light and dark.

This tape is for general, unregulated visibility marking. It is not Chapter 8 compliant and not ECE104 compliant. If you need certified conspicuity marking for HGVs over 7.5 tonnes or trailers over 3.5 tonnes, use our ECE104 Reflective Tape instead.

Supplied in 50mm, 100mm and 150mm widths, cut to length from 1 to 45 metres.

Why Acrylic Prismatic?

Prismatic reflective tapes are made with different face films, most commonly acrylic, PVC or PET. Ours uses acrylic. Acrylic is the type of film generally chosen for long-term outdoor use, because it resists UV and weathering well and holds its colour and clarity over time. PVC and PET prismatic films are often cheaper, and PVC is more flexible, but they are generally less resistant to prolonged sun exposure.

The trade-off is that acrylic is stiffer, so it performs best on flat, rigid surfaces. For curves, corners and edges, a more flexible glass bead reflective tape is the better choice.

Key Features

  • Directional black and yellow arrow pattern
  • Acrylic prismatic reflective yellow surface, chosen for UV and weather resistance outdoors
  • Non-reflective black arrows for strong daytime contrast
  • Self adhesive backing for suitable flat, rigid surfaces
  • Widths of 50mm, 100mm and 150mm, lengths from 1 to 45 metres
  • For general visibility marking where certified material is not required

Which Parts Are Reflective?

Only the yellow sections reflect light. The black arrows are non-reflective and are there for daytime contrast and directional clarity, so at night the arrow shape shows up as reflective yellow against dark black, rather than the whole tape reflecting evenly.

Uses & suitable surfaces

Suitable for general visibility and directional marking where certified material is not required, including:

- Gates and fences
- Driveways and entrances
- Posts, poles and bollards
- Signs and mailboxes
- Barriers and fixed equipment
- Warehouses and workshops
- Yards and private property
- Low-hanging objects and hazards
- Bikes and bicycles, subject to testing
- Cars, vans and trailers where regulated tape is not required

Suitable surfaces: Clean, dry, smooth and rigid surfaces including metal, painted metal, plastic, UPVC, glass, sign boards, gates and posts. Adhesion varies with surface condition, texture, temperature, exposure and application pressure. Test first on painted, coated, delicate, textured or high value surfaces.

For bollards and barriers, use only as supplementary visibility marking on privately owned items where no formal specification applies.

Not suitable for: Clothing, flexible fabrics, washable garments or PPE. Not suitable for Chapter 8 or ECE104 regulated use.

Certification & product guidance

This is a general purpose prismatic reflective tape for unregulated visibility and directional marking. It is not Chapter 8 compliant and not ECE104 compliant.

If you need certified conspicuity marking, for example for HGVs over 7.5 tonnes or trailers over 3.5 tonnes, use approved ECE104 reflective tape instead. If you need markings for highways, roadworks, traffic management or another regulated application, check the relevant legal and project requirements before ordering.

This tape is designed for rigid surfaces and is not recommended for clothing, flexible fabrics, washable garments or PPE. For garments and fabric projects, use a suitable sew-on reflective tape.

Durability and adhesion depend on correct installation, surface preparation, surface condition, weather exposure and cleaning method.

Flashback Tape accepts no liability for incorrect fitting, misuse, surface damage, removal damage, regulatory non-compliance or use outside the intended application.

Frequently asked questions

Which parts of the tape are reflective?
The yellow prismatic sections reflect direct light. The black arrows are non-reflective and provide a strong visual contrast rather than reflecting at night.

Is this tape Chapter 8 compliant?
No. This is a general purpose black and yellow arrow reflective tape and is not certified for Chapter 8 regulated use.

Is this tape ECE104 compliant?
No. For HGVs over 7.5 tonnes and trailers over 3.5 tonnes where regulated conspicuity marking is required, use approved ECE104 reflective tape instead.

What is the difference between acrylic and PVC prismatic reflective tape?
Acrylic prismatic film is generally chosen for long term outdoor use because it resists UV, weathering and yellowing well, but it is stiffer and best suited to flat, rigid surfaces. PVC prismatic film is more flexible and conforms to curves more easily, but generally ages faster in prolonged sunlight. This tape uses acrylic.

Can I use it on cars or vans?
It can be used for general non-regulated visibility marking on suitable hard vehicle surfaces, but not where Chapter 8, ECE104 or any other certified tape is required. Always test first, especially on paintwork.

Can the tape be cut to size?
Yes, with scissors or a sharp knife. We also cut to your chosen length before dispatch.

Is it suitable for clothing?
No. This tape is designed for rigid surfaces, not clothing, flexible fabrics, washable garments or PPE. For garments or fabric projects, use a sew-on, iron-on or fabric-specific reflective product.
