Product Description

Flashback® 1.5mm EPDM Sponge Rubber Tape is a self-adhesive, closed-cell EPDM foam tape for narrow gaps, slim gasketing, light cushioning and anti-rattle protection. It sits between our 1mm and 2mm grades.

It gives a little more material to compress than 1mm tape while still fitting narrow gaps and tight spaces, making it useful for cabinet and enclosure seals, display panel and trim sealing, and light cushioning between close-fitting parts. The closed-cell structure helps seal against water, air and dust, and EPDM's ozone and weathering resistance is rated excellent on our data sheet.

Supplied on 10m rolls in widths from 10mm to 100mm, with wider widths up to 930mm available to order. The single-sided acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive allows quick application to clean, dry, smooth surfaces, and the finished tape is rated for use from -20°C to +80°C.

Is 1.5mm the Right Thickness?

Choose 1.5mm when you need a slim seal or cushion but 1mm leaves too little to compress: narrow gaps, slim gasketing, cabinet and enclosure seals, trim sealing and anti-rattle strips.

Choose a thicker grade when you are sealing a visible or uneven gap, or draughts around doors, windows, sheds or garages. 1.5mm still has limited compression, so 2mm or 3mm will seal more reliably. If you need to add as little thickness as possible, 1mm is the slimmest option, or compare all thicknesses.

Important: This is an EPDM sponge sealing and cushioning tape. It is not a roofing seam tape, flashing tape or waterproof membrane tape.

Uses & suitable surfaces

Typical Uses: Door and window sealing, weatherstripping, gasketing, gap filling, access panels, enclosures, machinery cushioning, anti-rattle protection, sound dampening and vibration reduction.

Suitable Surfaces: Metal, painted metal, plastic, UPVC, glass, wood, painted surfaces, panels and frames. For best adhesion, surfaces should be clean, dry and smooth. Always test first where suitability is uncertain.

Not suitable for: Oils, fuels, solvents or aggressive chemicals; electrical insulation, conductive applications or live circuits; submerged conditions; structural fixing or safety-critical applications.

How to apply
  1. Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust, grease and loose material.
  2. Measure and cut the tape to the required length using scissors or a sharp knife.
  3. Remove the release liner and carefully position the tape before pressing down.
  4. Apply firm, even pressure along the full length.
  5. Allow the adhesive time to bond before placing the tape under compression or stress.

Always test first to confirm suitability for your surface and application. Adhesion varies with surface condition, temperature and environment, so take particular care on dusty, damp, rough, porous, delicate, freshly painted, coated or high-value surfaces.

All figures are typical values, not a guaranteed specification. The working range of the finished tape is -20°C to +80°C, set by the sponge rubber. This tape is not certified for electrical, structural, chemically exposed, submerged, automotive safety-critical or load-bearing applications. Suitability depends on surface, compression, temperature, environment and installation. Always test before full use. Flashback Tape accepts no liability for misuse or improper installation.

Frequently asked questions

Is 1.5mm thick enough for my gap?

1.5mm suits narrow gaps, slim gasketing and light cushioning where 1mm leaves too little to compress. It still has limited compression, so for draught gaps around doors, windows, sheds or garages a thicker EPDM tape will seal more reliably.

What is EPDM foam tape used for?

Sealing, gasketing, cushioning, weatherstripping, gap filling, anti-rattle protection and vibration dampening.

Is EPDM foam tape suitable for outdoor use?

EPDM's ozone and weathering resistance is rated excellent on our data sheet, and the tape is rated for use from -20°C to +80°C, making it suitable for many outdoor and sheltered applications. Always confirm suitability for your specific application.

Is EPDM foam tape waterproof?

Closed-cell EPDM helps resist water ingress, but the finished seal depends on compression, surface contact and installation. It should not be used as a roofing seam, flashing tape, waterproof membrane joint, or in submerged conditions.

Is EPDM the same as neoprene?

No. Both are synthetic rubbers used for sponge sealing tapes, but they suit different conditions. EPDM is generally the better choice for outdoor and weather-exposed sealing, while neoprene is often preferred where oils or fuels are present. EPDM is not suitable for contact with oils, fuels or solvents. Our EPDM vs neoprene vs foam tape guide compares them in detail.

Can EPDM foam tape be cut to size?

Yes. It cuts easily to length with scissors or a sharp knife.
