Product Description

Flashback® 3mm EPDM Sponge Rubber Tape is a self-adhesive, closed-cell EPDM foam tape for sealing, cushioning, gap filling, weatherstripping and anti-rattle use.

At 3mm thick it offers a practical all-round balance of compression and support. It is thick enough to seal small to medium gaps and cushion panels, while still thin enough for tighter-fitting jobs such as door and window seals, hatch seals, access panels, cabinet seals and panel spacing. The closed-cell structure helps seal against water, air and dust, and EPDM's ozone and weathering resistance is rated excellent on our data sheet.

Supplied on 10m rolls in widths from 10mm to 100mm, with wider widths up to 930mm available to order. The single-sided acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive allows quick application to clean, dry, smooth surfaces, and the finished tape is rated for use from -20°C to +80°C.

Is 3mm the Right Thickness?

Choose 3mm when you need a general-purpose seal for small to medium gaps: door and window seals, draught reduction, hatch and access panel seals, cabinet and enclosure seals, panel spacing and anti-rattle padding. If you are unsure where to start, 3mm covers a wide range of everyday sealing jobs.

Choose a thicker grade when the gap is larger or uneven, where 4mm or 5mm will compress into it more reliably. For close-fitting parts where 3mm would hold them apart, 2mm is the next step down, or compare all thicknesses.

Important: This is an EPDM sponge sealing and cushioning tape. It is not a roofing seam tape, flashing tape or waterproof membrane tape.

Uses & suitable surfaces

Typical Uses: Door and window sealing, weatherstripping, gasketing, gap filling, access panels, enclosures, machinery cushioning, anti-rattle protection, sound dampening and vibration reduction.

Suitable Surfaces: Metal, painted metal, plastic, UPVC, glass, wood, painted surfaces, panels and frames. For best adhesion, surfaces should be clean, dry and smooth. Always test first where suitability is uncertain.

Not suitable for: Oils, fuels, solvents or aggressive chemicals; electrical insulation, conductive applications or live circuits; submerged conditions; structural fixing or safety-critical applications.

How to apply
  1. Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust, grease and loose material.
  2. Measure and cut the tape to the required length using scissors or a sharp knife.
  3. Remove the release liner and carefully position the tape before pressing down.
  4. Apply firm, even pressure along the full length.
  5. Allow the adhesive time to bond before placing the tape under compression or stress.

Always test first to confirm suitability for your surface and application. Adhesion varies with surface condition, temperature and environment, so take particular care on dusty, damp, rough, porous, delicate, freshly painted, coated or high-value surfaces.

All figures are typical values, not a guaranteed specification. The working range of the finished tape is -20°C to +80°C, set by the sponge rubber. This tape is not certified for electrical, structural, chemically exposed, submerged, automotive safety-critical or load-bearing applications. Suitability depends on surface, compression, temperature, environment and installation. Always test before full use. Flashback Tape accepts no liability for misuse or improper installation.

Frequently asked questions

Is 3mm thick enough for my gap?

3mm is a popular all-round thickness and suits small to medium gaps, including many door, window and hatch seals. For larger or uneven gaps, a thicker grade will compress into the gap more reliably.

What is EPDM foam tape used for?

Sealing, gasketing, cushioning, weatherstripping, gap filling, anti-rattle protection and vibration dampening.

Is EPDM foam tape suitable for outdoor use?

EPDM's ozone and weathering resistance is rated excellent on our data sheet, and the tape is rated for use from -20°C to +80°C, making it suitable for many outdoor and sheltered applications. Always confirm suitability for your specific application.

Is EPDM foam tape waterproof?

Closed-cell EPDM helps resist water ingress, but the finished seal depends on compression, surface contact and installation. It should not be used as a roofing seam, flashing tape, waterproof membrane joint, or in submerged conditions.

Is EPDM the same as neoprene?

No. Both are synthetic rubbers used for sponge sealing tapes, but they suit different conditions. EPDM is generally the better choice for outdoor and weather-exposed sealing, while neoprene is often preferred where oils or fuels are present. EPDM is not suitable for contact with oils, fuels or solvents. Our EPDM vs neoprene vs foam tape guide compares them in detail.

Can EPDM foam tape be cut to size?

Yes. It cuts easily to length with scissors or a sharp knife.
