Uses & suitable surfaces

Typical Uses: Door and window sealing, weatherstripping, gasketing, gap filling, access panels, enclosures, machinery cushioning, anti-rattle protection, sound dampening and vibration reduction.

Suitable Surfaces: Metal, painted metal, plastic, UPVC, glass, wood, painted surfaces, panels and frames. For best adhesion, surfaces should be clean, dry and smooth. Always test first where suitability is uncertain.

Not suitable for: Oils, fuels, solvents or aggressive chemicals; electrical insulation, conductive applications or live circuits; submerged conditions; structural fixing or safety-critical applications.

How to apply

Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust, grease and loose material.
Measure and cut the tape to the required length using scissors or a sharp knife.
Remove the release liner and carefully position the tape before pressing down.
Apply firm, even pressure along the full length.
Allow the adhesive time to bond before placing the tape under compression or stress.

Always test first to confirm suitability for your surface and application. Adhesion varies with surface condition, temperature and environment. Take particular care on dusty, damp, rough, porous, delicate, freshly painted, coated or high-value surfaces.

Frequently asked questions

Which thickness of EPDM tape should I choose?

Choose a thickness slightly greater than the gap, so the foam is compressed when closed. Thin grades (1mm to 2mm) suit fine gaps and gasketing, 3mm to 6mm covers most door, window, hatch and panel seals, and 8mm to 10mm suits larger or uneven gaps.

What is EPDM foam tape used for?

Sealing, gasketing, cushioning, weatherstripping, gap filling, anti-rattle protection and vibration dampening.

Is EPDM foam tape suitable for outdoor use?

EPDM's ozone and weathering resistance is rated excellent on our data sheet, and the tape is rated for use from -20°C to +80°C, making it suitable for many outdoor and sheltered applications. Always confirm suitability for your specific application.

Is EPDM foam tape waterproof?

Closed-cell EPDM helps resist water ingress, but the finished seal depends on compression, surface contact and installation. It should not be used as a roofing seam, flashing tape, waterproof membrane joint, or in submerged conditions.

Is EPDM the same as neoprene?

No. Both are synthetic rubbers used for sponge sealing tapes, but they suit different conditions. EPDM is generally the better choice for outdoor and weather-exposed sealing, while neoprene is often preferred where oils or fuels are present. Flashback® EPDM Sponge Rubber Tape is a self-adhesive, closed-cell EPDM foam tape for sealing, gasketing, cushioning, gap filling, weatherstripping and anti-rattle use.

Choose from nine thicknesses between 1mm and 10mm and widths from 10mm to 100mm, all on 10m rolls. Wider widths up to 930mm are available to order. The closed-cell structure helps seal against water, air and dust, and EPDM's resistance to ozone and weathering makes it a practical choice for doors, windows, hatches, panels, enclosures and general trade and industrial sealing.

A single-sided acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive allows quick application to clean, dry, smooth surfaces, and the finished tape is rated for use from -20°C to +80°C.

Which Thickness Do I Need?

Foam seals work under compression, so choose a thickness slightly greater than the gap you are sealing. The foam should be squeezed, not just touching, when the door, lid or panel closes. The performance figures on our data sheet are measured at 25% and 50% compression.

1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm: fine gaps, precision gasketing, light cushioning and anti-rattle strips where you need to add minimal thickness.
3mm and 4mm: the all-round range for small to medium gaps, door, window and hatch seals, cabinets and enclosures.
5mm and 6mm: medium gaps, access panels, draught reduction and panel cushioning.
8mm and 10mm: larger or uneven gaps, heavier cushioning and vibration reduction.
