Hula hoop performers often use UV blacklight tape to create hoops that glow brilliantly under UV light. Wrapping your own hoop is simple, affordable, and lets you design unique patterns that stand out at parties, raves, and performances.
What You’ll Need
-
A plain plastic hula hoop (PVC or PE)
-
UV blacklight tape in your chosen colours (pink, green, yellow, orange)
-
Scissors
Step 1: Choose Your Pattern
Decide whether you want solid colour wraps or alternating stripes. Alternating colours give a striking effect when the hoop spins under UV light.
Step 2: Start at the Base
Begin at the hoop joint and press down the first edge of the tape. Wrap diagonally around the hoop, overlapping slightly to avoid gaps.
Step 3: Keep the Angle Consistent
Hold the tape at the same angle as you spiral it around the hoop. This keeps the wrap neat and evenly spaced.
Step 4: Trim and Secure
Once you reach the end, trim the tape and press it down firmly. If needed, add a small strip of clear tape to lock the ends in place.
Step 5: Test Under UV Light
Switch on your UV/blacklight and watch your hoop glow. Adjust any loose spots before performing.
