Uses & suitable surfaces

Typical uses include electrical enclosures, control panels, access panels, HVAC equipment, lighting installations, industrial equipment, door and hatch seals, automotive and transport applications, marine applications, cushioning, vibration reduction and anti-rattle protection.

Apply to clean, dry, stable surfaces that provide suitable adhesive contact. Adhesion should be tested on the actual material, especially plastics, powder-coated surfaces, low-surface-energy materials, rough finishes and demanding outdoor or high-temperature applications.

How to apply

1. Make sure the application surface is clean, dry and dust-free.
2. Remove oil, grease, loose paint and other contamination.
3. Test adhesion on the actual surface before full installation.
4. Peel back the yellow release liner gradually.
5. Apply the tape without stretching it.
6. Press firmly along the full length to create consistent adhesive contact.
7. Allow the adhesive time to bond before placing the tape under compression, load or environmental exposure.
8. For sealing, aim for approximately 30% compression and do not exceed 50% compression.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What thickness is this tape?
A: This product is 3mm thick and is supplied in 5 metre rolls. Available widths are 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 20mm and 25mm.

Q: Is the tape suitable for outdoor use?
A: Silicone sponge offers good resistance to ultraviolet light, ozone, weathering and moisture. Final performance also depends on the adhesive bond, surface preparation, compression and exposure, so test the tape first for critical or long-term outdoor applications.

Q: What temperature can it withstand?
A: The SIL16 silicone sponge has a typical stated range of -60°C to +230°C, with intermittent resistance up to +250°C. The pressure-sensitive adhesive has a lower stated range of -40°C to +200°C. Actual service performance depends on the surface and installation conditions.

Q: How much should the sponge be compressed?
A: Around 30% compression is recommended where possible. Do not compress it by more than 50% of its original thickness for sealing applications.

Q: Is it waterproof?
A: The closed-cell sponge has low water absorption and can help reduce moisture ingress. The finished seal depends on the joint design, compression, joins, surface and installation, so the product should not be described as creating a guaranteed waterproof seal.

Q: Is the adhesive suitable for every surface?
A: No adhesive performs equally on every material. Apply the tape to a clean, dry and dust-free surface and test it first on plastics, coated surfaces, rough materials or demanding applications.
