Colour and placement: Yellow is commonly applied along vehicle sides and red at the rear. White is used for forward-facing and selected applications where permitted. Markings are normally positioned as close to the edge of the vehicle as practical. Colour, placement and coverage are set by the regulation and vary with vehicle type, so check the requirements applying to your vehicle before ordering.

Suitable surfaces: Clean, dry, smooth and rigid vehicle surfaces including painted metal, aluminium, stainless steel, trailer panels and vehicle bodies. Adhesion varies with paint condition, surface texture, temperature, cleaning chemicals and application pressure. Test first on painted, repaired, coated, textured, delicate or high-value surfaces.

Not suitable for: Clothing, flexible fabrics, washable garments or PPE. For garments, use sew-on or fabric-specific reflective tape. Also unsuitable for dirty, wet, greasy, loose, flaking or flexible surfaces.

1. Check the correct colour, placement and quantity required for your vehicle.
2. Check the surface is suitable and test a small area.
3. Remove dust, dirt, grease, wax, polish, oil and loose material.
4. Allow the surface to dry completely.
5. Measure and cut the tape to the required length.
6. Peel back a small section of the release liner.
7. Position carefully, then apply gradually using firm, even pressure.
8. Pay particular attention to edges and corners.
9. Allow the adhesive to bond before washing, pressure washing or heavy exposure.

Apply to surfaces above +10°C for best initial adhesion. Adhesion depends on the surface, preparation, texture and application conditions. Do not apply over rust, loose paint, oil, moisture or heavily textured surfaces.

Removal: warm gently with a hairdryer or heat gun, peel slowly at a low angle and clean any remaining adhesive with a suitable adhesive remover. Always test first, as removal may affect weak, old, repaired or poorly bonded paintwork.

This material is type approved to UNECE Regulation 104 (ECE104), which sets the performance requirements for retroreflective markings fitted to vehicles of categories M, N and O.

As required by the regulation, each roll carries the approval markings printed at intervals along its length: the "E" mark and state code, the class of marking material, and the approval number. Approval is held by the material manufacturer. Flashback Industries Limited supplies, converts and distributes this approved material and does not itself hold the type approval. Where documentary evidence is needed for an audit or specification, quote the approval number marked on the product.

ECE104 marking requirements depend on vehicle weight, category, use, country and placement. The buyer or installer is responsible for ensuring the tape, colour, placement and installation meet the requirements applying to their vehicle. Check before fitting.

Adhesion and service life depend on correct installation, surface preparation, surface condition, weather exposure, cleaning method and washing frequency.

Is this tape ECE104 approved?
Yes. The material is type approved to ECE Regulation 104 and each roll carries the approval marking printed along its length.

Which vehicles need ECE104 reflective tape?
ECE104 conspicuity marking is commonly required for HGVs over 7.5 tonnes and trailers over 3.5 tonnes in the UK and Europe. Requirements vary with vehicle type, weight and use, so check the rules applying to your vehicle.

What colour should I use?

Is this suitable for trailers?

No. This is not reflective PPE material and is not suitable for clothing, flexible fabrics or washable garments. For garments, use sew-on or fabric-specific reflective tape.

Can the tape be cut to size?
Yes. It cuts with sharp scissors or a suitable knife. We also cut to your chosen length before dispatch, from 1 metre upwards.

Can the tape be removed?
Yes, although adhesive residue may remain and some surfaces or coatings could be affected. Gentle heat helps soften the adhesive. Always test first.
